This fall, the TITC has plans to launch an awards season the celebrates Toronto indie theatre. We are creating awards that will recognize not just the talent onstage, but that of those working behind-the-scenes. While we have many ideas flying around, we need to create a committee to help us get this off the ground, and part of that is finding volunteer jurors.

What Will The Jurors Do?

  • See some great indie theatre (for free!)

  • Score productions based on a numerical system

  • Discuss and vote for the winners should one not be clear from the numbers

Who Will The Jurors Be?

  • A minimum of 50% will self-identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Person of Colour)

  • A minimum of 10% will self-identify as LGBTQ2+

  • A minimum of 10% will self-identify as Mad/Disabled

  • A diverse mix of genders

  • A diverse mix of ages, including youth (18+) and seniors (65+)

  • All will have a passion for indie theatre

  • All will have experience with theatre, be it amateur, professional or educational

  • All will pledge to adhere to the TITC’s Code of Conduct

Note: We want to be sure our jurors accurately reflect the diverse makeup of our city. These numbers are based off of demographic information that can be found here.

How Will The Jurors Be Chosen?

  • Interested applicants will complete a survey

  • TITC Company and Individual members will vote to approve jurors, ensuring the above guidelines are met

If you are interested in becoming a juror, please complete the survey found here before July 10, 2020. If you would like to join our TITC Indie Awards Planning Committee in another capacity, please email Emily Dix at and let us know how you’d like to get involved. Potential roles include fundraisers, board members (who would help create things like the numerical judging system), marketing gurus, event planners and more. If you want to be involved but don’t know how, that’s great too! Send us an email.
